Tregwilym Lodge Staff

The Home employs sufficiently trained nurses. All staff, whether nurse or care staff, receive in depth training in order to understand the needs of our service user and to deliver a high quality of personal, emotional, physical and medical care according to the service users individual needs.

The Home's staff are selected for their qualities of reliability, integrity, skill, friendliness and professionalism which are identified through interview, referencing and a criminal records bureau check.

During induction all staff are trained by our in-house trainer and by working alongside an experienced nurse or carer depending on their role and for all staff, before they are able to work on the floor, they cover the following training:

• Infection Control

• Health and safety

• COSHH

• Protection of Vulnerable Adults

• Introduction to Dementia

All staff receive initially, and have regular updates, on the following courses:

• Care Code Conduct

• Challenging Behaviour

• Person-Centred Care

• Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

• Health and Safety

• Food Hygiene and Safety

• Moving and Handling

• First Aid

• Infection Control

• Fire Safety

• Dementia Care

• Safe Administration of Medication

Throughout the supervision process bi-monthly, staff are assessed on their current knowledge and areas of further training are identified and actioned.

The Home works towards all staff achieving at least a Vocational Qualification Level 2 and at present all care staff are working towards or have achieved Level 2 or 3. All staff, including domestic and catering, are currently studying QCF. The Home Manager has the Registered Managers Award and the Deputy Manager is working towards her Managers Award. The Home also allocates staff as training becomes available, to attend outside courses provided by Newport City Council and Torfaen Council.
